Klaus is at the deck, pacing a little, which is only sort of not helping, but that’s only because there’s less things in their immediate area that are being affected by weird telekinesis he’s not aware of still.
“Hey. You brought a stick?” Fair. Can ghosts be attacked by sticks? Klaus doesn’t know how Bash’s ghost powers work in practice.
“I guess that means I’m cursed then.” Klaus sighs. “Things just keep…happening. Weird shit. All the time. Like I was just looking at stuff and this cup fell off the table and there’s no reason it should have! Like no one touched it and I don’t think the ship rocked or anything.” They frown. “And then some weird stuff at the pool with Ava and Pratt got hit with carrots and everything has been like…suuuper weird.”
And it doesn’t make sense. It’s just that they haven’t mentally put together the facts that all of the weird things have happened when he’s been startled or had bigger emotions. “And like the only new thing is that I got my Umbrella Academy tattoo back. And like…this weird knife from Vietnam.” There was something else too, but he can’t find it and it was in the middle of their too drunk to function era, so it could honestly be anywhere right now.
"And you haven't heard of these things happening when you're not around, it seems to be a you-thing, mostly?" See, Bash knows about poltergeists, and how often they're a manifestation of psychic power from one of the kids in a house, instead of a ghost. He's dealt with that problem before.
“I mean…maybe? I dunno. Ava pointed out the knives still throw themselves?? Maybe it’s just new boat weirdness?” But it keeps happening around him. “But no one else has mentioned anything weird happening.”
“Right. I wanna try something. Just humor me.” Bash steps closer. “I want you to close your eyes for me, sweetheart, and think about a situation you’re upset about. Something that’s not resolved, that’s hanging over your head and twisting you into knots. That makes the pit of your stomach cold.”
He’s there with the pool cue, ready to bat away anything that comes flying.
Klaus glances around briefly before looking at Bash for a moment. "Okay." He takes a moment, but he closes his eyes. Something that's upsetting? God. What isn't something that's unresolved and upsetting? Klaus focuses on their siblings, on the feeling of loss and the desire to know what's going on back home. It's really the worst thing. The uncertainty of it all, the desire to know if everyone's okay, the stress of not knowing.
One of the life preservers closest to him starts to move, eventually getting free and smacking into him as a couple of the deck chairs also start to drag across the deck. "Ow." A beat. "That didn't hurt." Cause it didn't. They peek a little.
"Alright, sweetheart. I know exactly what's going on. You're not crazy, you're not haunted. You're just getting weirder like any of us. Fun presents from Sundries or other evolutions of power, fuck if I know. You're doing the Jean Grey shit, but it's all coming off emotional vibes, yeah? You get mad, you pull at the world."
He'd reference Matilda, but he never read that book.
Klaus squints for a moment before letting out a sigh. "Oh. Huh. Well, that's...who is Jean Grey?" Cause clearly that's the important thing here. (No, it's not) "Maybe that's the thing I lost??? I dunno. I know there was something, but I can't find it." A beat. "So I'm...uh...something has happened, anyway. But what exactly?"
"You became the poltergeist you wanted to see in this world. Telekinesis, responding to strong emotion. You're the one who's making shit around you weird." Bash reaches out to run his hand along Klaus's arm gently. "You're gonna be okay, you just need to learn control."
Klaus knows what telekinesis is. Not that he's ever seen it in practice. Technically. They wonder if anyone in the group of kids had this kind of power or not. Anti-gravity was sort of the same thing, right? "Oh. Huh. Well, that's hopefully not going to get super weird. Hope Pratt will forgive me for pelting him with carrots on accident." They feel a little guilty about everything now that they're thinking about it. The hand on his arm draws him out of his thoughts and he offers a small smile. "Well, that's another power I've never had to get used to."
"Well, not like you're the only one who's got weird power shit happening. Hell, I can turn anything into a silvered weapon now. That's weird shit. Wanna go up to the sports deck sometime and try to practice doing things on purpose, maybe?"
A pause. "Yeah. You're right. That's true." But wait...did he know that? "Oh. Well, that sounds pretty useful if you have to fight dangerous shit all the time like we do." Klaus shrugs. "I have like one knife. Diego would be super disappointed in me." Surprised that they had even one knife. "Yeah. That might be a good idea. I don't want to hurt anyone by accident. Oh god. Ava. I was the one haunting her boat."

Because it is a pool cue.
